More than 150 shuttlecock players came from 9 countries to play at the 27th Hungarian Open between 18 and 21 July. We could welcome the players of Austria, Czech Republic, France, Hongkong China, Germany, Italy, Romania, Slovakia and of course Hungary who played in single and team events at the traditional competition.
Contrary to the previous schedule we started with single events, where 75 men and 32 women played exciting matches. In the semi-finals David Zentarra (FFC Hagen) won against Alexander Rab (Újszászi VVSE) and Gergő Horváth (Kanizsa LK) could get into the final by winning against Gábor Tóth (Újszászi VVSE). During the final David Zentarra dominated the whole match and eventually he won it. Last year’s silver medallist could celebrate his gold medal in 2024.

Huang Suet Yan played against Boglárka Udvari to get into the final. It was a three-set exciting match what has ended by Asian victory. As a result of the semi-finals Huang Suet Yan played against her teammate, Yan Nuo. The confident and dynamic Yan Nuo could win against last year’s silver medallist, Huang Suet Yan in two sets.
After Friday evening’s awarding ceremony, we continued the program with team events. At the men’s competition we applied Swiss system during the qualifying matches, as for the women, we played group matches. 27th Hungarian Open was ideal for getting ready and practicing for the world championship what will be held in October in China. Beside the matches participants could get involved to a lot of side events, like billiard hockey organized by SPRTI Mutenice (Czech Republic), the local culture house provided free entrance to their musical event, a civil organization from Szolnok brought traditional wood games for Thursday evening and of course the traditional garden party and last night’s disco were also part of the program.
We had some special guests, as well. At the closing ceremony the major of Újszász, Róbert Dobozi, the president of SFE, Jeremy Godat and the president of Hungarian Shuttlecock Association, János Fehér jr. congratulated for each player. At the single event the vice mayor of Újszász, Istvánné Kaló and the operative director of Sports Clubs’ National Federation, József Nagy welcomed all the participants. We are really happy that a large number of shuttlecock players came to Újszász for our event and we hope that we can repeat it next year even better.
